Our baby hammock is a cocoon-like fabric bed attached to a safe and gently bouncing spring. These type of beds have been used for centuries in many traditional cultures so we believe our baby hammock is an excellent back to nature beginning for the babies of the 21st century.
All Natures Sway baby hammocks come with a luxurious and breathable natural New Zealand wool mattress providing warmth in winter and coolness in summer.

Upgraded Hammock design
Based on customers feedback we have improved the design of the hammock. Updated features include:
-
A slightly flatter bed while still maintaining a gentle curve which supports the natural C-curve of baby's spine
-
Thanks to a new foot gate feature there is 20cm more usable length
-
The new design also better accommodates the mattress stiffener and/or mattress protector which both help open up the Hammock creating more room for baby and improved airflow,
We hope you'll agree that the new features make the Hammock even better than it was. Try one out in-store.
Benefits – why buy a hammock instead of a cot?
-
Longer sleeps. Many parents report their babies sleep for longer in a hammock and will often self-settle due to the natural motion and comfort of the hammock.
-
A baby hammock is the ideal first bed for your baby because it mimics in-utero conditions that your newborn is so familiar with. Perfect for that 'fourth trimester' and beyond.
-
Support your babies spine. Babies are born with a natural primary curve to their spine. The gentle curve of a baby hammock ensures they get even support along the spine rather than creating potential pressure points on the head, shoulders and pelvis as occurs when lying on a flat surface.
-
Safe. The fabric gently molds around your baby to help keep them in the middle of the hammock, face-up, with plenty of fresh air due to the bellows action of the bouncing motion.
-
The baby hammock also ensures that baby's weight is evenly distributed, eliminating the problems of flat head

At nine weeks baby Wesley was diagnosed with a torticollis. The team of cranial facial specialists at Middlemore Hospital told us that normally children with one like his can have very bad flat head but by Wes sleeping in a hammock this has not happened with him at all. They were very impressed with him and directly attributed it to him sleeping in a hammock. |
-
Portable and versatile. Take your hammock anywhere. The hammock can be hung from any ceiling, beam or door frame. The hammock folds up small and is light to carry.
-
Strong. The hammock can support weight up to 15kgs.

Fabric options
Our standard baby hammock is made with double boiled cotton calico free of fabric finishings, dyes and chemicals.
Or choose our
Organics range which is made from a special blend of 55% hemp and 45% certified organic cotton. Naturally anti-fungal it renews itself with every wash.
Suspending the Hammock
The best option is to hang your hammock from the ceiling (you just need to locate the wooden beam which is every 60cm in most homes) that way you can have baby well off the ground when they are first born and lower it once they get more active < 3 months. You can hang it next to or even over your bed if space is restricted and put the second ceiling hook in the living room for day sleeps. With our standard hammock pack we even include a door clamp so you can take the hammock with you and baby so they can sleep in their familiar bed.
this is the hammock for us
If you want the convienence to move the hammock around the home you may prefer to purchase the hammock with the practical and compact four legged stand.
We choose this design because it gives us stability and height.
We like that the base of the hammock is not too close to the floor, but low enough for bigger babies.
There are no dangerous bars at floor level and the design prevents the hammock being swung or tipped over, the primary motion is bouncing up and down on the spring.
It can also be re-used for a baby bouncer or even a play hut with a little imagination.
we want a hammock with the stand
Have all options to attach and hang the hammock with our
Deluxe Pack.

This one includes ceiling scews, chain and karabiner clips, door clamp and the stand. Plus you get a second fitted sheet to make life even easier.
How long can we use the hammock for?
Many parents ask how long the baby hammock can be used for and our standard reply is on average 6 months, sometimes more, occasionally less. It depends on how active your baby is.
Once baby is trying to roll over, sit up or wriggle about the hammock is no longer suitable, this can start around the 4-6 month mark. If you have a placid baby who is still happily sleeping on their back in the baby hammock it could last until 1 year old.
We recommend using our new mattress stiffener especially for the first few weeks as it holds the mattress more open around baby's face. The cocofibre stiffener is a great aid because it will bend and flex like the hammock so larger babies will still have difficulty rolling while still enjoying the benefits of a firmer base. We understand that some parents are tempted to make the base of the hammock completely flat with a board or similar but our experience indicates that this can make it too easy for baby to roll and hammocks are designed to be safe for back sleeping only.
